THE WHAT: An Introductory Community of Practice
Learn what somatics is and how somatics can transform us, our communities & our movements. Learn from Indigenous wisdom & the latest science about the mind-body connection as relates to:
The impacts of historical, ongoing systems of oppression on our bodies, relationships, and organizations
How we can uproot white supremacy within ourselves
How to truly embody change - not just "try harder"
Growing your capacity for both/and thinking
Unpacking your relationship to power
How somatics can help our movements be more grounded, sustainable, and effective
The neuroscience behind tapping our creativity in the face of the most challenging times
Not letting shame lie to us about our capacity to change
And more!
THE WHY:
Our activism/ our movements stand to benefit. We can move from practices and a culture based in white supremacy to practices and cultures that are equitable, sustainable, support each person's well-being and creativity, and where being present, grounded, responsive, and adaptable is more readily available to everyone. The science and practice of somatics has that to offer to our activism.
THE WHEN, WHERE, HOW:
Weekly Live 1 hr 30min workshop on Zoom for 8 weeks
Weekly self-paced video learning content (15 to 30 minutes in length)
Weekly Home Practices & Peer Exercises to apply learning, requiring up to 1 hr per week
Optional Additional Resources & Tools every week

TO PARTICIPATE:
You will need a quiet enough space where you can comfortably engage in the various activities throughout the workshop, including moving your body, speaking, or reflection/focusing your attention inward. We recommend any comfortable place where you can sit, stand, and potentially move around without external inhibiting factors. In-between classes, you can expect practice exercises and study materials, requiring no more than one hour of additional time each week.
COST:
We offer our workshops on a Sliding Scale. The true cost of this workshop is our Full Rate.
If your organization offers development funding to support you to attend the course, select either the Full Rate, Full Rate + or Redistribution Rate, based on the amount of funds made available to you plus the cost that you are able to personally contribute or where you fit on the sliding scale guide linked above.
